Jan 6, 2020

Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University, Gustavo Rodriguez-Rivera’s fields of interest include operating systems, programming languages, and computer networks. He is passionate about both neural networks and artificial intelligence and describes how the idea of artificial intelligence has evolved with time. Professor Rodriguez-Rivera started his path to computer science over 40 years ago with the Apple 2 computer when he learned to use BASIC. He received a degree in electrical engineering and then focused on the field of computer science in graduate school.  His advice to high school students is to begin learning computer programming now! He suggests learning to write computer programs using Python. Gustavo states that a few of the best qualities of someone learning computer science include both patience and persistence. Gustavo suggests that neural networks and artificial intelligence are the next frontiers for the field of Computer Science.
