Stephen Hoffmann is the Assistant Head of the Department of Chemistry at Purdue University and his role involves overseeing Graduate Admissions to the department. His Ph.D. studies were in environmental chemistry and technology. Through the interview, he explained trace metals and some methods of researching them. Stephen, being a scholar and a gentleman, took a passion for helping students after being inspired by a high school chemistry teacher. After coming to Purdue, he worked for Environmental and Ecological Engineering, Engineering Education, and finally the Department of Chemistry. He advises students to make clear goals on their college application statements and for those who get into college, to seek out faculty to find research and other opportunities in the areas in which they are interested.
