Superheroes of Science

Dec 2, 2019

Lisa Welp researches both carbon and water cycles, and how plants respond to extra CO2 in the atmosphere.  She addresses the important building blocks of life: CHONPS (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur). Lisa addresses the ocean’s role as a carbon sink (Henry’s law), removing CO2 from the atmosphere. As part of her research, Lisa’s group utilizes lasers to analyze isotope ratios in atmospheric samples.  She has also been able to estimate the total amount of photosynthesis that occurs on the planet. She further explains that scientists can not prove things, they only support or disprove concepts.
